Walmart’s
Holiday Entertainment Guide
An evolved approach to Walmart’s circular program that shifted the focus from price to solutions. Developed in collaboration with the creative director and client, the work positioned Walmart’s grocery department as a credible, aspirational destination for holiday entertaining.
A restrained pricing treatment allowed the food to lead, while consistent systems for recipes and tips added clarity and value. The result differentiated the book from the broader circular program and elevated it beyond promotion into experience.
Art Direction
For all Walmart circulars, we art directed layouts using a modular planning system we called polygons or gray-box layouts. Before a single photo was shot, spreads were designed as spatial frameworks that defined image hierarchy, cropping behavior, negative space, and storytelling rhythm.
These gray-box layouts served as both a creative blueprint for the photography studio and a decision-making tool for stakeholders, allowing photography direction, composition, and layout intent to be approved upfront. The result was faster sign-off, fewer reshoots, and a highly repeatable system that scaled across categories, page counts, and production cycles while maintaining visual consistency at massive volume.
It was art direction built for reality: clear, intentional and engineered to keep creative quality high while production risk stayed low.
